Solar water heater uses the free energy of the sun to heat the water which eventually reduces the monthly electricity or gas bills and is most suited for places where there is a lot of sunlight and it is a modular system. Solar water heater has few moving parts, high in efficiency and requires no fuel and hence the cost of peration is nil. The tank takes more space than the tankless ones which are mostly suitable for commercial purposes, swimming pools and other places where storage of water is not required. There is no mechanical or electrical process in this system and hence it does not produce electricity but only a thermal conversion takes place. Solar water heater may be slightly expensive when compared to some conventional water heaters as it is finding it difficult to compete with the natural gas heaters.
